healthy living

i have been trying to get as healthy as i can in every way i possibly can lately. it's weird and random but i go through these phases of wanting to better myself. now i'm not saying i'm not always healthy, i would say i'm on a good level of healthiness but i want to go to the level of, like, being one with the earth. i'm talking full on hippy-tree-hugger. i know i must sound a little crazy but to be honest, when don't i. anyways i thought i'd share my healthy living tips with you beautiful people.

*drink shit loads of water*
you may have to pee every five minutes but you'll notice your skin will start to clear up, you'll feel more energized and awake and just have an overall refreshed feeling. it's all worth having to pee a lot, right? right.

*use a natural deodorant or none at all*
i've tried going deodorant less most days and its usually ok because i shower daily anyway so i don't create that much "stink" during the day. however, sometimes my job can be a little bit strenuous and i do break a sweat. so on those days it's kind of bad news bears but i'm not overly self conscious about it so it's all good. not using deodorant actually relieves you body of some extra somewhat unneeded chemicals it's exposed to on a daily basis. it gives it a break from these toxins. i haven't tried any natural deodorants like baking soda or lemon juice but i think i will, so i'll report back!

*don't shave*
this one kind of makes me laugh because this doesn't really make you healthy in any way but it's sort of liberating. highly recommend trying. ALTHOUGH i've noticed that when i take long breaks (and i mean long...like 4 months or more) without shaving, when i finally do shave them, they are smoother than i have ever felt them, the pores on my legs are hardly noticeable, and i never get any rash or razor burn which is something i constantly got even if i used a good razor and shaving cream. i've got super sensitive skin what can i say. anyways try it it's fun.

*eat vegan or vegetarian*
now i'm not recommending you jump right into becoming a vegan because let me tell you, it's extremely difficult, especially if you're a picky eater. being vegetarian is much easier. you don't have do it forever but even trying to be vegetarian or vegan for a couple of months will do your body so much good and in turn make you feel great.

*meditate*
you've got to have a healthy mind to go with that healthy bod! mediating and quieting your mind for a little bit every day is excellent for the brain. it will allow you to think more clearly and efficiently!

*no nail polish*
too many chemicals seeping into your body. yes, you can absorb things through your nails. let them breathe!

*no makeup*
no makeup makes for healthier, clearer skin. you're beautiful no matter what, don't listen to people who have nothing nice to say, they're sad, sad people. feel bad for them and feel happy for yourself!

*walk*
get some fresh air in those lungs, INHALE then EXAHLE. feels good.

*take a break from technology*
as i'm writing a blog post on my computer................i think our minds function better being in the real world, experiencing things first hand and communicating face to face. that's how we are programmed. we get so mesmerized by our technology that we forget to live. you can't bake a cake on the computer. if you are using technology, do it to call a friend or chill to some music, things that are good for you.

*be kind*
be kind to others, and be kind to yourself. only good comes from good. you are all loved, important, cherished and here for a reason, don't ever forget that.

how to make your hair dye last longer

so, as some of you may know, i reverse ombre-ed my locks a week or so ago and i loved it! well, actually i still do, but i have a little problem...it's almost all washed out! i was warned by my hairdresser that red hair is actually the hardest to dye because of it's bright colour, bright highlights and just it's over-all red tone! apparently it just doesn't like to hold on to dye. *sigh*

anyways, i'm pretty cheesed that it's basically washed out in only 6 days seeing as it was done with permanent dye! i was hoping my hair would hold it's colour. of course, i can go back to my hairdresser and try it again but she's pretty busy and i'm pretty poor...post university problems :/ so i've been sort of bummed about that but i now know that i have to do certain things if i want my hair to keep it's new colour for when i get it done again next time!

here are my tips to have your hair dye last longer:

1. don't wash your hair as often. however, if you are like me, that's not really an option. i have extremely greasy hair. i can shower in the morning and my hair will be greasy by 5pm. it's horrible. i've always been that way though so don't tell me it's because i shower too often, that's a myth my friends--greasy people need to shower daily. but i have a semi-solution to this problem, try using baby powder or spray in shampoo like batiste to buy yourself an extra day. or just wear your hair up and hope no one comments on your unwashed hair :).

2. wash your hair with cold or tepid water.

3. use colour enhancing shampoos or shampoos that protect dyed hair.

4. use hair dyes that have little or no red tone to them, those are the ones that wash out fastest! (that includes auburn and warm browns).

5. use permanent dye not semi or demi permanent they won't last very long at all.

stay cheeky!

Simple Beauty Tips

Over the years I have come across and searched for a number of beauty tips. Not just any beauty tips but ones that I could do at home with materials that I would just have in my home already and wouldn't have to go out and buy. I've tried a lot of different beauty tips over the years but I have found these few to work the best.

For Whiter Teeth: Baking soda is an awesome natural teeth whitener and most people already have it lying around the house! All that you have to do is put a small pile on the palm of your hand, wet your tooth brush, dip it in the baking soda and scrub your teeth like usual. After about a week you should start to see a difference! Hydrogen Peroxide also helps in whitening teeth, but if you use this, just dip a  q-tip in the Hydrogen Peroxide and rub it on your teeth BUT be sure not to swallow any! Try one of these tips and you'll have a rad white smile in no time!

Natural Highlights: To get natural highlights in your hair in the summer time take some fresh lemon juice and rub it in the ends of your hair and sit out in the sun for a while (remember to protect your skin though!) and eventually you will notice your hair will start to lighten after a week or two of doing this almost everyday.

Smooth, Flawless Skin: This may seem absolutely disgusting but it works extremely well! Putting apple cider vinegar on a cotton pad and applying a small bit to your face and leaving it there for about 10 mins will make your skin flawless. Not right away though! It smells absolutely horrid when it is on your skin, it burns a bit and it makes your eyes water and your probably wondering why in the heck you would ever want to put it on your face or how I came to find out it works so well but it does. After a day, once my skin has settled, it looks refreshed, soft and clear. Although its gross the results are worth it, I recommend you try it!--it has to be apple cider vinegar though, no other kind!

Lighten Freckles: Lemon juice and apple cider vinegar both lighten the look of freckles. Lemon juice takes a bit longer to show results, but it definitely smells better.

Softer Ends: If you have "crispy" hair ends try putting a light, non-greasy face moisturizer on your hair before you go to bed a night. This way if it rubs on your face while you are sleeping it won't give you zits. Wash your hair in the morning and you'll notice your ends will feel a bit healthier.

Get Rid of Yellowed Nails: If you are an avid nail polish wearer like me, you may have experienced yellow nails. Yeah, I know, they're super embarrassing and gross but I have some tips to help! Make a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda and create a paste, so use more baking soda than lemon juice. It will fizz a bit but don't worry that will settle. Once the paste has been made put it on your bare nails and scrub it in a bit, leave it on your nails for about an hour then wash it off. Do this for about a week and you'll see the yellow go down. Sunlight also helps, so maybe sit in the sun for a while to expose them to some much needed Vitamin D.

Coconut Oil: Eating a spoon full of organic coconut oil a day is great for your hair and skin and overall well-being!

Clear Skin: Another remedy to get clear skin is real/organic maple syrup and crushed aspirin mixed together to make a mask. Yes, it's super sticky and a weird combo but the maple syrup is good for circulation and the aspirin gets rid of inflammation of the skin. It has to be aspirin though, no tylenol, no advil or anything like that, only ASA.

Hope you guys like all these beauty tips and that you try them out! If you do let me know what you think of them!

Cheers!
