redesigning

hey cc readers!

i'm trying to change my blogs design a tiny bit to make it a bit less busy-looking. i'm not a blog designing expert or anything so it won't be some amazing looking blog but it'll be a bit better than what i had before--i think! so, if you come to read and everything looks a little different that is why!

country walks

i live on the cusp of the country, just a short bike ride and it's fields forever. i love being so close to the country, the fast paced city is just too much for me. my family often enjoys going on walks to fill up our lungs with some fresh air. coincidentally my mom's boyfriend lives on a very nice street and it's just a couple houses down from a lovely horse rescue farm that we love to visit. he also has a couple apple trees and pear trees on his property so we always collect the ones that have fallen and bring them to give to the horses.

there is a possibility i might be moving to a 150 year old farm in the next year or so but we aren't too sure yet! it's super cool and i'm really hoping that we do move there, i've always wanted to live on a farm. we also might be able to adopt some of the beautiful rescue horses from this farm if we do which would be great too!

one of the things i love most about the summer time is being able to take walks with my family. they really help to calm you down and clear your head. it's especially nice to go out after dinner, right when the sun is starting to set and it's not too hot. talk about serene!

hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

the more the merrier

if someone were to tell me what my life would be like right now 6 years ago i would never have believed them. after my parents got divorced i felt sort of broken and that i had lost that sense of family. but now, i have a bigger family than i could have ever imagined. the pessimist in me didn't like change and had a hard time accepting new people into my life. this mindset made me quite negative but as i've gotten older the optimist in me has come out and allowed me to welcome new opportunities as well as new people into my life, the more the merrier, right?

i don't really talk to my dad much anymore but i wish him well with what ever he is doing in his life right now. as for my mom, she met her boyfriend a year and a half or so ago and has fallen head over heels with him. i wasn't very accepting of him coming in to my life at first because i was still dealing with my parents divorce and was in a negative mindset, which i feel bad about now. but i can't take back my broody teenage attitude and can only move forward from there. along with my mom's boyfriend came his three daughters. i have to admit i felt a little weird having three younger girls coming into my life as well. it just felt like it was so much change in such a short amount of time. but just as any new friendships or relationships start out, it's always a little rocky and awkward. we are all pretty far in age, my sisters and I are ten or more years older than his youngest and almost just as far in age with his older two. i remember thinking "how are we ever going to bond?, we are at such different stages in our lives," but it's actually a great mix! i think if we were all around the same age there would have been more competition between us or that awful teenage/preteen resistance where no one would want to talk to each other because they're "too cool." my sisters and I are all adults and his kids (except his oldest who is 14) are still in that stage where they are starting to get older but still those innocent little kids inside. it didn't take very long at all before we were all being our weird selves around each other, probably because we went on a two week vacation together after just a couple weeks of us all meeting! they are the sweetest girls and i feel lucky that i now have three new sisters, who would have guessed i'd be a part of a family of 8! not me that's for sure!

it's a little crazy how much life can change in such a short amount of time. i mean, i went from feeling like i lost my family and later went on to gain a family almost twice it's original size. i'm sad that i don't talk to my dad much anymore but i know how quickly things can change so who knows what will happen in the future! i'm pretty happy with my life right now and i feel blessed. i'm still trying to have that optimist attitude and seeing all that that will bring me.

sunday brunch

my family is very close and we like to have little family outings anytime that we can. last weekend my younger sister, my mom, my granddad and i all went out for some sunday brunch at a cute little restaurant called the dutch mill. this is just down the street from my mom's house and i love going there. its so rustic and unique. its a mixture of shopping and food--that's the perfect mixture if you ask me. they have the best food, it's so simple and just like home-cooking.

knick knacks
we always love coming here because of the awesome food and because of it's comfy atmosphere. it's just a lovely place to chit chat and catch up with the family.

mom
and my younger sister couldn't resist leaving without getting an old fashioned bottle of coca-cola. they are so quaint i just love them.

Favourite Summer Nail Polishes!

when i first started this blog i said that most of my posts would be on beauty, but i haven't actually talked about beauty at all! whoopsies...anyways i thought i would talk a bit about beauty by talking about some of the nail polishes i like to wear during the summer months and some that i have gotten this year and plan on wearing this summer.

so i have a confession to make...i am a nail polish-aholic. i have more nail polishes than i know what to do with. i have about 10 different shades of all the colours of the rainbow. i know that may sound a little nuts but i know there are many of us nail polish-aholics out there! right? i hope there are...anyways i think that nail polish is a lot like a mood ring! personally i wear colours that match my emotions BUT i also wear nail polish that goes with a certain outfit i'm wearing or perhaps the season it is. so, yeah, i guess that's why i have so many? haha let's get back to the nail polishes that i'm loving this summer though!

1. copper penny 932 - REVLON

i know everyone has this idea that revlon is a crappy nail polish but, it's well priced and it works well for me! it stays on long if i put a good base and top coat on (i recommend OPI) and it applies nicely. this nail polish looks amazing on tanned summer skin, i'm a redhead so i don't tan but i still think it's a fabulous summer colour. i'm not usually a fan of metallic nail polishes but i wear this one all the time during the summer and i love it!

2. jaded 320 - REVLON

if you are looking for a nice subtle pastel colour for the summer this nail polish is great. it goes nicely with almost any outfit and the green tone also looks nice with tanned skin!

3. lilacism - ESSIE

this nail polish is like a calmer version of bikini so teeny also by essie. i was given this nail polish by my best friend for my birthday and i'm obsessed with it. i love pastels, especially during the summer and much like jaded by revlon this polish also goes nicely with almost every summer outfit. it's like wearing the summer sky on your nails!

4. wicked - ESSIE

i wouldn't usually wear such a dark colour during the summer months but i almost always wear a dark colour on my toes, i think it looks nicer to have a dark colour on them! i pretty much always have this colour on my toes and it looks absolutely beautiful on both tanned and pale skin (i like it a bit better on pale skin but maybe i'm just biased ;) haha)

5. tropical guava 100 - CERAMIC GLAZE

i actually just got this nail polish this month and haven't tried it out yet because i've been giving my nails a breather from the polish. i don't know about you guys but i love neon colours for the summer. again, they look great with tanned skin and they just look so much better in the bright summer sun! i used to have neon pink by china glaze but it dried up :( so i bought this to sort of replace it.

6. fearless 640 - REVLON

i'm not a big fan of red because it makes the pink tones in my skin come out and i don't like that too much but i think red looks fab with sun kissed skin. this colour is the red i wear when i'm feeling like i need to wear a red polish. it has a bit of an orangey pink tone which i like, it makes it look a tad bit more fresh. As well as some of the other colours i mentioned i like this one because its easy to match with outfits.

7. muchi muchi - ESSIE

if you're looking for more of a subtle neutral colour for the summer i suggest this nail polish. it's really subtle but so pretty. if you're looking to have the pink tones in this polish pop a little more all that you have to do is add another layer. i wear this one all year long and its always been one of my favs!

let me know of some of the nail polishes you guys like to wear during the summer, i'd love to hear!

Movie Talk

Hey CC Readers!

So if you remember, I mentioned in last week's post that I was going to the movies with my best friend a couple days ago to see Despicable Me 2 which was awesome and cute! But it got me thinking, maybe I should make a post about movies I love, and movies I want to see!

I don't know about you guys but I feel like I get asked the question "what's your favourite movie?" quite often...that is seriously the worst question in the world. I don't think I know one person who has just ONE favourite movie. I have many. I also wouldn't say I have a "type" of movie that I like, for example I don't just like comedies or action movies, I like a wide array of films. I do however have a slight obsession with kids movies, they are my favourite, especially Disney movies, they just make me feel like a kid again!

Here is a list of my fav Disney movies (these aren't in order of favourites, they're just random)

1. The Lion King (I cry every time I watch this)
2. Robin Hood (awesome flick)
3. Mary Poppins (she's so cool)
4. Sleeping Beauty (I wanted to be Aurora)
5. Peter Pan (I wished I could fly like him and now I wish I could go to neverland)
6. The Santa Clause (I love Christmas movies..)
7. Hocus Pocus (actually I like holiday movies in general)
8. Pocahontas (she's the s***)
9. Toy Story 1 and 3 (loooooooooooooove)
10. Tarzan (so cute)
11. Finding Nemo (sad but awesome)
12. Monsters Inc. (who doesn't like monsters?)

......perhaps I should end that list there, I have many more though ;)

I also really like movies with aliens and powers and stuff like that! I love all 3 Men in Black movies, all the X-Men movies, and all the Harry Potter movies. I can watch all of them forever and ever. I also have an obsession with the movie Tangled, I don't know if it's possible to be jealous of a cartoon but I want to be Rapunzel UGH SHE'S JUST SO FLIPPING BEAUTIFUL AND HER HAIR... please.

Recently I saw the movie ParaNorman which came out a year or two ago I believe? maybe it was this year but anyway I love it so much! I love stuff with Mediums I just think that shiz is so cool, have you guys seen Theresa Caputo the Long Island Medium (her show makes me cry like a little baby), well this movie is like a kids version of that show, only with ZOMBIES which I also love love love. (Walking Dead is one of my favourite shows of all time!!)

This post is getting a little erratic. It's hard for me to talk about all my favourite movies because there are just so many! I'm even throwing the odd tv series in there! So before this post gets outta hand I think I'll just finish off by giving y'all a couple movies I'm looking to see this year!

1. After Earth

Now I'm not really a fan of Jaden Smith but I do like Will as an actor. I saw the trailer for this movie and it looks sick!

2. World War Z

I AM SO SCARED THIS IS GOING TO BE OUT OF THEATRES BEFORE I GET A CHANCE TO SEE IT CAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE ESPECIALLY GOOD TO WATCH IN THEATRES. But yaaa...I really want to see this. I like zombies in case you can't tell...

3. The Wolverine

Hugh Jackman. That is all.

Let me know of some of your favourite movies, movies you've seen recently or movies you want to see! I'd love to read and answer your lovely comments!

Plans

Hey CC Readers!

This week hasn't been super exciting or anything but I was lucky enough to get this week off work! So yay for that! haha. My older sister and her fiance have been waiting for their new house to be built for about 2 years now and this week it was finally supposed to be done so I took off work to help them move all their stuff in. Unfortunately, their builders kept pushing the date that they were supposed to be done, even though they had pushed the date back a year already! But, my sister wouldn't take their "we're not finished yet" as an answer and made them work their butts off to finally finish it. Last night they got everything done so today is MOVING DAY. I'm happy to have my sister living so close to me again, it's been a while since our family has all lived this close to each other, with my sister and her fiance living in a different city, and me living away at school we were always sort of far from each other. On top of that, it's my sister's fiance's birthday tomorrow as well so she wants to throw a freaking birthday party for him whilst still moving in. I guess it'll be a party amongst boxes but that's all good.

On Sunday before I go back to work I'm getting together with my best friend and roommate who I haven't seen in a couple weeks. I'm not used to not seeing her every single day, she's basically my sister from another mister not to sound super lame. I was with her every single day from grade 7 to grade 12 and then lived with her through university, so I am honestly having separation anxiety, I don't know what to do without my partner in crime! When she's back at school next year and the year after that and I'm stuck at home working I'll probably get depressed...not for real but I'll definitely be missing her! Anyways, it'll be nice to see her again this weekend, we're going to see Despicable Me 2! What do you mean it's a kids movie.....

literally me and my best friend
What are you guys doing this week or this summer? Leave a comment I'd love to hear what y'all are up to!

My Weekend

Hola!

This weekend I went up to Muskoka which was nice and somewhat fun! I was there with my mom, sister, great aunt and uncle, my second cousin and his wife, so there really wasn't anyone there my age except my sister. Which was fine of course, it just would've been more fun with my friends, you know? Anyways, the weather was nice for at least one day, so we took advantage of the sun and swam most of the day which was great. Then as the sun set me and my sister sat in Muskoka chairs on the dock and chit chatted, it was nice.

We ended the night with a boat ride around the lake and the next morning we were on the road back home again. Good thing too because it started to rain. We were only there for a little bit but it was nice to get away from the city for a little while. This morning I was back to work, but on a happier side note I FINALLY FINISHED MY ONLINE CLASS SO I'M OFFICIALLY DONE SCHOOL FOREVER NOW! weeeeee!

What were you guys up too this weekend?

Summer Travels

Hello CC readers!

Every summer my family and I go on a summer trip. Sometimes we just go to one place, but we often go to two just because we can't pick just one place! Last summer I was lucky enough to go to Las Vegas and then Exuma in the Bahamas. Both were awesome! Las Vegas is so weird to me, it is literally a city in the middle of the desert. Flying over the barren land to this lively and exciting place is unreal to say the least. It was easily one of the hottest place I had ever been, it wasn't humid it was dry heat, like that heat that rushes out of a hot oven except it was constant. I didn't mind it at all though, I like it hot!

our house in las vegas
My mom's boyfriend is one of those people who likes to experience everything. If there is something to do, we're doing it. He always does research to find out all the best restaurants, best scenes and places that the locals would go to but not necessarily the tourists. I love that he's like that because I feel like I always get the most out of every trip we ever go on. I never leave a place wishing I had done something. We never miss a thing.

at a little restaurant (I can't for the life of me remember the name of this place!)
It was an amazing place. We were only there for four days but, man, those days were packed with things to see and do. I was lucky enough to visit sin city once, but I'm even more lucky because I am going back there again this summer, and I can't wait!
driving around red canyon park
Exuma was SO beautiful. In all of my travels I have never seen a place with such perfect, clean, clear, blue water. It was literally incredible how perfect it was. The people there were so nice and happy. Everywhere we went there were people greeting us with a friendly hello and a smile.

the buildings were so colourful I loved it!
We stayed in Exuma for two weeks. I know it doesn't sound like too long, but I honestly felt like a local  by the time we left. I was an island girl as far as I was concerned, beach hair, freckles everywhere, and bathing suit attire all day. It was ridiculously hot here as well, but much more humid. Luckily the ocean was just a short walk from our house, and we had a nice pool, so we could cool down when the heat got too much.

our house in exuma
We went to a different beach everyday just because we could. All of them were awesome, but, tropic of cancer beach was definitely the best. It had the whitest, softest sand and the swimming/snorkelling was great. There were no rocks, or grossness (is that even a word?) underneath us while we were swimming, just perfect sand. I saw a baby octopus (I made it ink, whoops), a barracuda (scariest s*** ever), and loads of pretty fish.

my mom swimming at tropic of cancer beach
We went to a place called Stocking island which is just a small little island but it had these HUGE stingrays that came and swam around everyone who was swimming at the island. It was an amazing experience but they all still had their barb thingers at the ends of there tails which scared me a bit. You could feed them as well but my mom's boyfriend got bit and I was like "I'll pass."

as you can see, they were quite large stingrays
They also had this really cool little restaurant/snack shack called Chat n Chill. It was cool, the roof had hundreds of t-shirts all over it and the atmosphere was literally chill. While you are there, they give you permanent markers and they said you can leave your name to let people know you were here. We are a group of 9...and we went a little buckwild. Needless to say the place was covered with our names and Canadian flags after we left haha.

at the chat n chill
Another day we went to a restaurant called Santana's. Not only was the food ah-mah-zing, but we found out that while filming one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Johnny Depp ate there. Johnny Depp... ate there...*faints.* It also had one of the chillest dogs I've ever met, he was such a cutie.

one of the many pictures of Johnny Depp just casually having a beer with the owner of Santana's -- she said he was one of the nicest people ever which makes me very happy
the chillest dog ever
We also went to a restaurant called Charlie's which had a great vibe as well, great music and people. But, later on in our trip my mom's boyfriend had researched this boat tour, cruise thing which looked like a lot of fun. It was kind of expensive (I think it was around $300 CA per person but I could be wrong) but it was THE MOST FUN I'VE EVER HAD. It is a full day excursion but you do so much. We got to see huge, live starfish, swam with nerf sharks (they're like babies and harmless), swam with exuma's famous swimming pigs (actually hilarious), lunch at one of the nicer yacht club's restaurants, you get to swim in an under water cave that's not really under water... it's hard to explain but it was unreal, we got to stop at Nicholas Cage's island which is COVERED in iguanas for some reason and got to feed them, and finally we visited the sand bar where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed.
mom, a starfish and I
horrible picture but I swam with the pigs, you didn't have to but I couldn't pass up the opportunity
they were giant
mr. iguana
We had so much fun in Exuma and I miss it, I would go back in a heartbeat. This summer my family and I were supposed to be going to Hawaii which I was stoked about but it turns out, not too many flights leave for Hawaii and our group is so large that it would be hard to get 7 seats on the same plane, so the possibilities right now are up in the air! I'm thinking Greece but we'll see ;) Anyways, I'll keep you guys updated with my travels. I'll make some posts while I'm on the trips and afterwards as well. I hope that you guys keep checking in to see what's up! Let me know if you have any suggestions of places we should visit or if you're going on any trips yourself! I'd love to hear what you guys are up too!

Til next time!

Stay Cheeky :)

Tuesday Blues

I'm writing much earlier than I usually would today, I woke up feeling a little distraught. Actually this whole week I've been feeling a bit out of sorts. I keep having those dreaded late night "I can't sleep so I am going to examine every aspect of my life" thoughts and frankly I'm driving myself a little insane. I keep thinking about where my life is headed, if I like where it's headed, what I'm doing with myself right now, what job I'm going to have, what job I should be looking for...blah blah blah. Honestly, I feel quite lost. Also, (here comes my crazy cat lady talk) my cat Homer has been really sick the past two days, I have suspicions that someone in my neighbourhood isn't too fond of cats and might be leaving something out for him that might have made him sick. But, I am hoping those suspicions aren't true! Anyways, I'm keeping an eye on him and hoping he gets better sooner rather than later. I digress, back to my depressive talk, I know that I am not the only one who has these lost, out of sorts, rampant thoughts and that it's really just a normal part of life. We're all trying to figure out the meaning of life and our purpose in this life even if we don't want to admit it! So, I thought I would share some music with you guys in case you're feeling the same way as me lately. Music is always my go to thing to calm myself down and bring me back to reality. It's universal everyone gets music, right?

Mree will forever be my favourite singer she isn't very well known as far as I know but she's f****** amazing. This song in particular can calm me down and bring me back to reality even when I'm in my most distraught state. Do your ears a favour and LISTEN.

Dallas Green is absolutely amazing as well, and from St. Catharine's Ontario, which is where I went to University and close to my hometown. He is so genuine and you can hear this in all his music. His voice is angelic. What makes a man is one of my favourite songs of his.

Daughter has a lot of awesome songs, Medicine, Candles and Youth are my favourites. They have such a subtle yet powerfulness to them. I always listened to her when I was pulling all nighters trying to finish 5,000 word essays while away at school, glad those are over with and glad I had Daughter to help me through!

And last but not least, Bon Iver! I can't show you some of my favourite songs without mentioning Bon Iver. Every song Bon Iver has ever done is the s***. Actually just Bon Iver himself is the s***. His songs bring me to an instant state of calm. Some of my favourites of his are Holocene, Stacks, Towers, and Love More. Love More is actually my favourite favourite which is why I chose the link for that song but also I noticed a lot of people have not heard Love More by him, it seems to have slipped through the cracks a bit which saddens me because it's so amazing! So, if you haven't already heard it, take a listen.

Have an awesome rest of the week everyone, stay cheerful and stay cheeky!

xo
